What is Latisse?

Latisse is currently the first and only FDA-approved treatment to naturally grow and volumize the eyelashes. For patients who have no eyelashes or too few eyelashes for their preference, Latisse prompts the eyelashes over time to grow faster naturally. Patients who have fewer lashes may grow more prominent, longer, and thicker lashes. Patients who currently use temporary eyelash extensions should be able to stop using them, having naturally grown their own lashes. Treatment starts in our office, and continues with a simple at-home application. Results are visible in as little as 4 weeks, with the best results appearing within 16 weeks of the first treatment.

How Latisse works

Patients apply the Latisse solution to at home nightly with a sterile applicator. Exact application instructions are included and our staff will provide ongoing guidance to make it a comfortable process. A typical application includes:

Removing contact lenses
Cleaning the face of makeup
Putting a drop of Latisse to a sterile single-use applicator brush
Carefully applying that drop of Latisse to the upper eyelid, at the base of the lashes
Closing the eyes and blotting any excess solution
Reinsert contact lenses back 15 minutes later; if used.

Conditions treated by Latisse

The clinical condition for which Latisse is prescribed as a treatment is called “hypotrichosis,” which simply means one has little or no hair growth where it should be growing naturally.

Latisse is used to treat inadequate or nonexistent eyelashes. It increases the lifespan of the growth phase of eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker.

Latisse is simple, safe, and effective. No other treatment is FDA approved for this purpose.

What is the recovery or downtime for Latisse?

Latisse requires no downtime or recovery period of any kind. Contact lenses can be reinserted 15 minutes after Latisse is applied, and eye makeup and mascara can continue as usual.

Women over the age of 16 wishing to improve the length and volume of their eyelashes usually do very well with Latisse. Some people find they’re allergic to certain ingredients in Latisse, so we’ll check that before starting you on the at-home portion of Latisse treatment. Less than four percent of patients experience any adverse reactions.
