An overview of breast augmentation surgery

To prepare for your breast augmentation in our Westlake Village office, Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Stark will work closely with you to determine what size, shape, and implant type will help you achieve the overall look you desire. They will then use Vectra 3D Imaging Technology so you can visualize exactly what your breasts will look like after surgery.

To begin the actual procedure, one of our board-certified anesthesiologists will administer general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety. Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Stark will then make a precise incision, either at the bottom of the breast (inframammary), under the arm (axillary), or around the areola (periareolar). This is a critical aspect of your procedure, as the placement of the incision can impact your scarring, nipple sensation, and breastfeeding options. Prior to surgery, Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Stark will discuss the benefits and risks of each option and help you determine which incision is in your best interest.

After Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Stark have made the incision, they will place your implants. There are two placement options available, and you and the doctors will decide together which one is best beforehand. For the subglandular breast implant placement, Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Stark will position the implant in front of the pectoral muscle and behind the breast tissue. For the submuscular breast implant placement, they will position the implant underneath the pectoral muscle. Once the implant has been placed, Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Stark will expertly close the incisions to minimize any scarring.

What kind of breast implants are available?

In our practice, Dr. Schwartz and Dr. Stark offer silicone gummy bear breast implants for their breast augmentation procedure. FDA-approved for patients over 22 years of age, they are cohesive (solid silicone gel) implants that feel more natural and are less likely to ripple and rupture when compared to saline implants.
