In our last blog, we discussed the many benefits of a Mommy Makeover and how it can help women reverse the effects that pregnancy and raising children can have on the body. Today, we’ll talk a bit about the recovery process and what you can expect once your procedure is complete. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael Schwartz, is committed to providing you with safe treatment and ensuring that your recovery is as smooth as possible.
Since every patient is different and Mommy Makeover procedures are customized for each individual, the recovery process is not the same for everyone. What you can expect during recovery will be largely dependent on your unique physiology, the specific treatments that are included in your Mommy Makeover, and whether the operation is performed in a single appointment or in a series of staged surgeries. More invasive surgical procedures, such as tummy tuck surgery or breast surgery, will typically require at least a few weeks of recovery, particularly if they are performed together. There will be swelling and soreness in the treatment areas after surgery; however, Dr. Schwartz can prescribe pain medication to minimize discomfort. Any heavy lifting or strenuous activity should be avoided for at least six weeks, and possibly longer, depending on the treatments included in your Mommy Makeover. Dr. Schwartz may also need to provide you with specialized compression garments to wear for a short while after the procedure in order to aid in the healing process. He will follow up with you regularly to check that you are healing properly and that you are not experiencing any problems.
It’s important to remember that most Mommy Makeover procedures involve multiple major surgeries, and while the results can significantly rejuvenate your appearance and restore your pre-pregnancy figure, you should keep in mind that you will need an adequate amount of time to rest and recuperate after the treatment. Having a strong support system at home and getting the care and encouragement you need can work wonders during your recovery.
The best way to get a clear idea of the potential recovery process after a Mommy Makeover is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Schwartz to talk about your options. He can go over each procedure that can help you attain your goals and talk with you about how much time you may need to take off work and other aspects of your customized Mommy Makeover. Dr. Schwartz encourages you to ask any and all questions you may have, and he will be happy to address your concerns.
